Michael received his Bachelor of Arts from Sir George Williams University (now Concordia) in 1969. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1972 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1974. In 1990 Michael obtained his Masters of Education in Applied Psychology from the University of Toronto School of Graduate Studies.

Michael practices in the area of commercial litigation and mediation. He has extensive experience in cases involving breach of contract, shareholders' rights, injunctions and investor disputes. He represents financial institutions, national corporations, and regional businesses as well as individuals and investor groups.

In 1999 Michael obtained his Masters of Law in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Osgoode Hall Law School. His study in this two year programme emphasized negotiation, mediation, dispute resolution, conflict management, mediation training and process design.

He was part of the team that conducted the mediation pilot project for the Law Society of Upper Canada and has been designated as a Roster Mediator, Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program as well as a mediator for the Law Society of Upper Canada. Michael is a founding member of Aylesworth Mediation Services and carries on an active practice as a mediator.

Michael is an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall Law School where he teaches Negotiation. He has also been an instructor in Civil Litigation for the Law Society of Upper Canada Bar Admission Course.

Michael is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, the Metropolitan Toronto Lawyers Association, Cambridge Club and Donalda Club. He sits on the Boards of Directors of Jewish Family and Child Services.
